Success for CHS Teams.

CHS U14 Football Team

The 2014 McMullan Shield final took place at Omagh Leisure complex with Castlederg High School and Drumragh Integrated College aiming for success. The McMullan Shield is The Fermanagh And Western Schools Football Associations under 14 competition, now approaching its 30th year with schools from across Tyrone and Fermanagh competing annually. The competition is run in a league format with the top two teams playing in the final. This year’s final was expected to be a tight contest with both schools having a 100% record in their respective league fixtures. Indeed this was a copy of the McKee Cup final earlier in the year in which Drumragh had ran out victorious. It was clear from the start that both sides were intent on trying to play attacking football on the fantastic 3G surface at Omagh Leisure Complex. A number of early opportunities were created by both sides however it was Castlederg who proved to be more clinical in front of goal, racing into a first half 2-0 lead thanks of strikes by Dylan Russell and Gareth Davis. The expected second half fight back by Drumragh was hit by an injury to influential captain Andrew Scott, who had posed a threat throughout the opening half.

CHS U14 Rugby Team

The Castlederg High School U14 rugby team have won the plate competition for the Mowbray Shield held annually in City of Derry rugby club. The competition was initiated by Mr Simon Mowbray, the vice principal of Castlederg High school, in 2000 when he was working as a development officer for the IRFU with the City of Derry rugby club before he started his teaching career. The school have not lifted the trophy since 2001 so it was with great pride that they defeated St Columbs College Derry in the final beating them 17 : 7. The school had defeated Strabane Academy in the semi finals, having played Oakgrove Integrated College and Foyle College in previous games.
